Description of the Site and Home

The house style is Spanish. It is painted white with a red roof. The house is tiled throughout with terracotta tiles. The garden is situated in the southern part of the stand. Prevailing coastal wind direction is from west to east. Large trees act as screens for this wind.

The garden receives adequate sunshine. The ground slopes gently toward the east, dropping 0,5 m over a distance of 15m. An irrigation system has been installed. This waters the garden during dry periods. The garden is also lit up at night. This is ideal for entertainment purposes.

Description of the Spanish Garden Design

The entertainment area, in the form of a patio, looks directly onto the garden. The plants thrive in the prevailing climatic conditions. They are healthy and luscious. The patterns in the garden link up with the Spanish style of the house. They are repeated in the circular paths and pool.

The bright colors of the interior of the house introduce the garden. The colors in a tropical garden are sparse, but bright. Different paths lead you around a jungle type garden. It is full of interest and surprises.

Benches are placed under the trees. The focal point of the garden is a large round swimming pool. In the centre of the pool is a planting box with tropical plants. A custom made water feature resembles a treasure chest.

Two Cocos plumosa palms have been planted in one hole. This creates a south sea Island look. This focal point looks magnificent at night. If you prefer a more classical effect, replace this focal point with a more traditional Spanish fountain.

The running water from the water feature sounds therapeutic. It blends in with the traffic noise, making it less obvious. This garden is very refreshing on a hot day.

The patio is a perfect place to sit and view the garden. The patio has functional design which includes a table and chairs, a barbeque, a hot tub and a fold out patio roof.
